Prom defines the senior year of high school. Who you ask to prom and how you ask them defines you. Typically, if you’re in a relationship in high school, friends expect you to take your significant other. However, if you’re single, you’re suddenly presented with not only who to ask, but how to ask them. Don’t worry. You’re not alone. Even your parents felt the same nervousness when they were young!
GUYS: There are many creative ways to ask that special girl to prom. Guys usually need help in the creativity department, so here are some ideas…
1.) Ask the special girl if she would like to hang out sometime. You can invite other friends if you’d like, but plan a fun outing for everyone, such as a bowling night or mini-golf, and then finish it by going to her favorite restaurant. Learning what her favorite restaurant is might take some work, but you have the whole night to talk to her and find out. Casually slide in, “Hey, you said you like to eat there. Would you want to grab a bite to eat after the game is over?” The hard part is done; she knows you want to spend time with her! Then, while you are eating at her favorite restaurant, write a note asking if she’d like to go to prom with you and slip it across the table to her with a multi-color light up pen, which she gets to keep if she answers “yes!”
2.) If you are already friends with the girl you like, call her parents and ask them for help. Ask if they’ll throw silk rose petals all over her room (if they think that’s going too far, use fake daisies, fake tulips, and the like). Ask her parents to place various candle favors around the room. Then get an oversized ring box, buy a ring-shaped candy sucker, and place it in the center of her bed. Underneath the ring box, place a note that says “Prom?” with a smiley face. This way, it’s humorous, but she knows you want to take her to prom.
3.) Continuing with the ring-shaped candy sucker in the ring box, simply pull the ring box out of your pocket, get down on one knee, open the box, and propose that she attend prom with you.
GIRLS: Don’t be afraid to be the one girl who asks a guy. While that’s more traditional for a Morp or a Sadie Hawkins Dance, he’ll be impressed with your courage.
1.) What does a guy focus on more than his car? While this may put you on thin ice, once he realizes the trouble you went to, he’ll be quick to forgive (especially if you help clean the car). Buy car chalk or window paint, sneak to his car early one morning (make sure to call so his parents are aware of what’s going on), and paint on the front windshield (attempt it backwards, so he can read it when he get into the car) “Will you take me to prom?”
2.) The fail-safe: Walk up to your guy in the hallway at school and just ask. He’ll be impressed that you were up-front, honest, and you were completely clear about what you wanted. Most high school-aged guys think a girl’s mind is a never-ending maze that is impossible to solve, so he might even be grateful that you asked clearly what you wanted. For effect, you can always place a prom crown on his head if he accepts!

Most kids use match-making websites like Prom Date Depot to get dates now instead of going stag. Kinda takes the effort out of it.
